Event 3513 - Configuration error. Registry in error for Policy Group:Rule (MMEngine error)

This article applies to:

  • Trustwave MailMarshal (SEG)
  • Trustwave ECM/MailMarshal Exchange 7.X

Symptoms

Items in the Windows Application event log on a MailMarshal email processing node:

Event ID: 3513
Type: Error
Source: MMEngine
Description: Configuration error. Registry in error for Policy Group:Rule

Causes

This error indicates that the engine cannot start because there is a problem with policy elements used in the rule listed in the error.

The error usually includes more details of the problem. For instance:

Configuration error. Registry in error for Message Archiving:Archive All Inbound Messages action CopyMessage
Problem loading Folder Archive In

This error indicates the problem is with the folder Archive In (usually, this error means the folder cannot be found on the processing server)

Resolution:

First, consider why and how the configuration has been set to use a folder that does not exist. Was the folder removed, or configuration improperly altered?

To resolve configuration problems, use the MailMarshal Configurator or MailMarshal (SEG) 10 Management Console to make changes, commit configuration, and start services.

When a folder error is reported, one solution is to create a new folder and then update all rules that use the old folder. MailMarshal uses folders with special IDs (the text names are only aliases), so it can be more difficult to re-create the previously existing folder.

Notes:

When these errors occur, similar text is shown in the MailMarshal service logs and the debug view of the service.
